WR Jeremy Maclin suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during practice. He took a few steps off the line of scrimmage and collapsed. This isn’t the first time Maclin has torn his ACL in his right knee. Back in 2009 he suffered the same injury before his freshman year at Missouri. The loss Maclin is huge blow to the team and for himself. Maclin is in the final year of his rookie contract and was hoping to have a breakout year. He was the Eagles best receiver last year with 857 receiving yards and 7 TD’s.
With this injury it will open up a roster spot for some of the receivers fighting to make the team. Jason Avant is the veteran who has been with the Eagles for 8 years but he is at his best as a slot receiver. Coppers has yet to get his feet under him in the NFL spending his time as 4th on the depth chart and mostly playing special teams although we did see some flashes out of him last year. Ifeanyi Momah is the rookie WR that everyone has their eyes on. He stands at 6’6″ 240 lbs and runs a 4.40-40. However he does have an injury riddled past that has prevented him from breaking out. Arrelious Benn was acquired by trade earlier this off-season and was a former 2nd round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but he too has had injuries. The Eagles have Damaris Johnson who is the NCAA all-time leader in total yards and is figured to be a weapon in a Chip Kelly system with his versatility. Others who could make the team are BJ Cunningham, Greg Salas, Russell Shepard, and Will Murphy.
When asked who had stud out so far in training camp Vick said Sheppard. Vick connected with Sheppard on a deep ball today.
Patrick Chung and Nate Allen continue to get first team reps as the starting safeties.
CB Carey Williams, WR Arrelious Benn, and WR BJ Cunningham all did not practice today due to minor injuries.
