The Phillies rookie pitcher Jonathan Pettibone has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore shoulder. While not considered to be serious the Phils have decided to err on the side of caution with the young starter. Ethan Martin, tonight’s starter has taken his place on the roster.
Pettibone was scheduled to pitch Saturday afternoon’s game against Atlanta. The Phils will move John Lannan up a day to pitch Saturday afternoon on three days rest while Cliff Lee will get the start Sunday night against Braves rookie Brandon Beachy.
In an unrelated roster move the Phillies have designated relief pitcher J.C. Ramirez for assignment and have called up 31 year-old Zach Miner from Lehigh Valley. Miner has pitched parts of four seasons with the Detroit Tigers in 2006-2009 compiling a record of 25-20 with a 4.24 ERA. This year with the Iron Pigs Miner is 5-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 12 starts and 15 relief appearances.
Pettibone has not missed a turn in the rotation since making his debut this year on Aprill 22nd. The rookie right-hander is 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA in his 18 starts. He joins teammates Mike Adams, Domonic Brown, Roy Halladay, Ryan Howard, Ben Revere, Joe Savery and Michael Stutes on the DL.
