With training camp just about a month away, it’s a terrible time for any Flyer to suffer an injury. Let alone the team captain, to a freak golfing injury. Unfortunately, that’s just what happened to Claude Giroux yesterday on the links.
Giroux was preparing for an upcoming golf event when his club shattered in his hands. According to Tim Panaccio, the shards of the club sliced four tendons, although none were severed. He was taken to a hospital in Ottawa where he had successful surgery last night.
On the bright side this injury occurred with plenty of time for a recovery. According to GM Paul Holmgren, he will miss around 5 to 6 weeks. That means he should be ready to return at some point during the preseason.
In this hugely important season for the Flyers organization the team will need all hands on deck, so they can’t afford to be without their best player and locker-room leader. But don’t expect this freak accident to hold the highly motivated Giroux back from a bounce-back campaign.
