It started out as a stall on offense for both the Eagles an Cowboys and it remained that way for much of the day. The Eagles certainly received no help from starter Nick Foles. Foles never got into a rhythm with his receivers making bad pass after bad pass. There were opportunities but Foles just wasn’t able to get the job done. We saw mistakes that we weren’t accustomed to seeing from him and it got frustrating quick to the fans as they brought out the boo birds. Foles would eventually exit the game with an apparent head injury.
Then entered fourth round pick Matt Barkley. He completed his first pass attempt on an out route that brought some cheers from the crowd. That moment however was short lived as his next pass was intercepted but was called back on an off-sides by the Cowboys defense. Not too long after he did throw his first interception of 3 all in the fourth quarter.
Of course it didn’t help that the Eagles were were shut down in the running game. McCoy often found himself turning negative and no gains into 1 or 2 yards gains all game and was never really given the opportunity to run in space.
DeSean Jackson was bottled up today by the defense with only 3 receptions for 21 yards. You have to tip your cap to the Cowboys defense somewhat but its not an excuse because there were plays there to be made but unfortunately our quarterback(s) played a very bad game. Once guy who did stand out was Riley Cooper who had a nice game and seems to have found his niche.
Flip to the other side of the ball to our defense and if you looked at the stats sheet you would have thought the Eagles won today, The defense did a very good job today in mixing in the blitz and taking away the the hot reads for Romo. They were able to contain the big play of the Cowboys and their top weapon Dez Bryant. Yes Bryant did have 8 catches for 110 yards but he was targeted 16 times so I will take a 13.8 ypc avg and no touchdowns. DeMeco Ryans picked off Romo in the 3rd to set up an Eagles FG that made it 10-3 in favor of the Cowboys.
Today was a fist fight and the Cowboys won it because they were the tougher team at the line of scrimmage.
Looking forward to next weeks game at home versus the Giants, Mike Vick should be the starter if healthy. Foles as of right now is expected to have a concussion and not able to play next week even if Vick is still unhealthy.
