Eagles Win, Eagles Win!!!

They WON! The Eagles defeated the Redskins 24-16 to end their 10 game home losing streak. It was a little shaky at the end but they were able to pull it out.

Offensive Stud:
Well the offense as a whole did very well today so there could be more than one pick here. Let’s go with Foles. Foles is proving each week from here on out why he should be the QB of the foreseeable future. Foles completed 17-of-26 passes for 298 yards and he also got it done on the ground with 9 carries for 47 yards rushing and a touchdown.

No one who had significant minutes played bad or bad enough to earn a “Dud” gem award. If you want to knit pick you could say Ertz needs to concentrate more on catching the ball and Shady needs to not run backwards on key possessions late in games.

Defensive Stud:

Same thing with the offense here. Everyone played very good even though things got hairy at the end for us. Plays were made by Barwin, Cox, and Boykin. Barwin had the sack fumble on RGII. Cox had the fumble recover along with being all over the field. Boykin of course had the nice special teams play to down the Redskins in on their own 2 yard line and he had the interception to seal the victory for the Eagles.

You never want to say someone was a dud but today Carey Williams was neither here or there. He played well enough to get the job done but his performance wasn’t something to be desired.

As for the game itself the Eagles started off very well. They moved the ball at will and were on track early for an easy win. All that came to a halt when the fourth quarter happened.

RGIII lead the Redskins to two touchdowns completed with two 2-point conversions.  The first was a deep ball to full back Darrell Young (62 yards) along the sideline in which Patrick Chung missed the tackle and hit Trent Cole. The second TD came off a scramble by RGIII and he threw the ball on the run to Aldrick Robinson for 41 yards.

The Redskins forced the Eagle to punt and got the ball back with 3 minutes and change left in the game and two timeouts. After marching down the field converting 4 third downs including a long one of 25 yards the Eagles were faced with another 3rd down on defense on their own 18. RGIII dropped back and pressure ensued from Fletcher Cox that forced RGIII to drop back further. Instead of throwing the ball away or scrambling to make something happen, RGIII threw up a duck that was intercepted by Brandon Boykin in the end-zone to end the game.

You say Foles should be the starter for the foreseeable future. It sounds like you’re not sold on him long term which is understandable since his track record is so short. If the Eagles finish with 8 or 9 wins how will they be in a position to draft a franchise QB? Bridgewater, Hundley, Mariota and Manziel project to be gone in the first 10-12 picks and maybe earlier. Would you consider moving up or do you think Carr or Boyd is a franchise QB? Its possible one or both of them are gone by the time the Eagles pick. I always got the feeling Kelly wanted to draft his own QB and that mobility would be a factor in who he’d want for his system. Since Mariota was his recruit I think Kelly would love to have him but would he be worth the cost in picks to get with the teams other needs?

      Thanks Carl,

There are two ways in which I see the Eagles attacking this situation. The first would be to keep Foles and add another weapon for him on offense at the WR spot and then address the defense. However in taking this rout I would still take a quarterback like James Franklin out of Missouri who fits Kelly’s “ideal system”. The other way of course would be to draft a quarterback like you said. Assuming they end up finishing with a 9-7 record then I think they will go with the first option. Your right in saying that Bridgwater, Mariota, and Hundley will all go most likely before the Eagles pick. The only way the Eagles trade up for one of them is if they absolutely know they can get at least the same production as Foles and they have a good chance of being better.
